Rogue FAQ
Cloze from Nihilum wrote:This guide is made based on a Combat Rogue'sexperience. Regarding Mutilate i cant give you any tips or advices since i have never felt the urge to try it out.
Talents
Dagger
-> Talent tree
You can choose 2/2 in murder over Ruthlessness if you prefer that, thats a matter of taste.
Priority for stats should be like this: Hit -> Critical Strike -> Attack Power
Sword
-> Talent tree
Priority for stats should be like this: Hit -> Attack Power -> Critical Strike
Combo Point / Attack Cycle
Start with a Backstab, Ambush, Garotte or Sinister Strike and use your 1 combo point on a Slice and Dice. Start building up combo points but make sure to always have Slice and Dice running. A typical start of your rotation would be like: Backstab or Sinister Strike -> Combo Point[ -> Slice and Dice -> Build up 2/3 Combo Points and then renew Slice and Dice. Make sure as i mentioned to ALWAYS have Slice and Dice running that is the only priority you must remember.
Now say you have 5 Combo Points and 10 seconds left on your Slice and Dice. You can use the 5 combo points on a rupture or a eviscerate and start building up Slice and Dice again with a 1/2 combo point. Regarding wether too use rupture or eviscerate is a matter of taste. Rupture with mangle provides a secured amount of damage while with eviscerate you can be lucky to get a high crit of on your target. I would proberly recommend rupture until you have a decent amount of Attack Power, then you can play around with some eviscerates.
Hit Rating
Hit Rating is your most important stat. While you wanna strive to get as much hit as possible you got to make sure you don't neglect other stats such as attack power + crit. Aim to get atleast 295 Hit Rating, the more the better aslong as you make sure you dont compromise other basic stats which you need
Consumables / Poison
Regarding what DPS Pots / Flask to use there is 2 diffrent version to choose from.
1. Flask of Relentless Assault (120 Attack Power for 2 Hours - Last through death)
2. Elixir of Major Agility (Increases your Agility by 35 and your critical strike rating by 20 for 60 min) + Elixir of Major Fortitude (Increases maximum health by 250 and restores 10 health every 5 seconds for 60 min)
Regarding food i suggest you go for Spicy Hot Talbuk (20 hit rating). If capped i suggest you go with Warp Burger or Grilled Mudfish which will provide you with +20 Agility & Spirit for 30 min. Should you need the stamnia for a certain fight i suggest you go with Talbuk Steak (or any other) which will provide you with +20 Stamnia & Spirit for 30 min.
Poisons
If you have a Shaman in your group go for Instant or Deadly Poison in offhand and if you dont have a shaman in your group go for Instant Poison in mainhand and Deadly Poison in offhand.
Enchants
Make sure to never be cheap with your enchants since it can help you gaining the dps you might be lacking.
I am in the progress of trying out Executioner in Mainhand and Mongoose in offhand (Wielding Main and Offhand Swords from Season 3). As soon as i will 2600 Arena points again i will try out Dual Mongoose again to compare it, but for now my suggestion will be to go for Executioner in Mainhand and Mongoose in offhand.
As for boots i highly suggest you go for Surefooted enchant which will provide you with 10 Hit Rating & 5& Snare Resist (Click here for reagents).
Should you stand in a position where you feel you are covered in on Hit i suggest you go for Cat's Swiftness (Click here for reagents) which will provide you with +6 Agility & Minor Speed. The reason i would choose this over +12 Agility is that the Minor Speed comes in handy in alot of fights or situations and therefor is far more superior.
On gloves make sure too always use 15 Agility over 26 Attack Power.
Gems
Im gonna make a list below here. The first gem i post will be the one is suggest the most, the one below it will be the 2nd best i suggest ect. Keep in mind that you need 2 red, yellow & blue gems to get the meta gem works. However the Glinting Noble Topaz gem can count as both your red and yellow gem. I will also include the Black Temple gems to the list since there will be a big possibility for you to purchase them by guilds that is running Black Temple. The gems from Black Temple will be marked with green.
Rigid Lionseye (+10 Hit Rating) - Matches a Yellow Socket.
Glinting Pyrestone (+5 Hit Rating & +5 Agility) - Matches a Red or Yellow Socket.
Rigid Dawnstone (+8 Hit Rating) - Matches a Yellow Socket.
Glinting Noble Topaz (+4 Hit Rating & +4 Agility) - Matches a Red or Yellow Socket.
Delicate Crimson Spinel (+10 Agility) - Matches a Red Socket.
Wicked Pyrestone (+5 Critical Strike Rating and +10 Attack Power) - Matches a Red or Yellow Socket.
Wicked Noble Topaz (+4 Critical Strike Rating and +8 Attack Power) - Matches a Red or Yellow Socket.
Balanced Shadowsong Amethyst (+10 Attack Power and +7 Stamina) - Matches a Red or Blue Socket.
Jagged Seaspray Emerald (+5 Critical Strike Rating and +7 Stamina) - Matches a Blue or Yellow Socket.
Jagged Talasite (+4 Critical Strike Rating and +6 Stamina) - Matches a Blue or Yellow Socket.
Meta Gem
Since there is limited meta gems to choose from, the only one i recommend you use and is the Relentless Earthstorm Diamond which provides you with 12 agility & 3% increased damage for your critical strikes.
Professions
Im gonna post what i would find most useful. Since i dont find Engineering useful i havent mentioned anything about it. Also i haven't mentioned anything about Herbalism, Skinning or Mining since i personally dont enjoy farming nor do i need to. Should you enjoy farming one of those would be a great 2nd profession. However;
Enchanting is a must have for every rogue. The +2 Weapon Damage on each ring will provide you with the extra damage you might have been lacking. Apart from that being able to disenchant stuff can give you quite a big income from selling it on Auction House or simply just bank it for future usage.
Leatherworking is another profession that can be useful to have. The Drums of Battle that increases your partys Haste Rating by 80 for X seconds is a great raid utility. There is also a great chance that blizzard will add new patterns in Zul'Aman or Sunwell like they did with the Black Temple patch.
Like Leatherworking, Blacksmithing can be a great thing to have from a personal point of view for the weapons you can craft, aswell as it can be handy to have for your guild if you ever need for example resist gear crafted for your tanks. As with Leatherworking there is a chance for blizzard to introduce new patterns in 2.3 or 2.4 for new weapons ect.
Trinkets
Im gonna make a list below here. Keep in mind that i will post from a Combat Rogue's point of view. For a Mutilate rogue im sure that this list will be diffrent. The first trinket i post will be the one is suggest the most, the one below it will be the 2nd best i suggest ect.
Madness of the Betrayer (Illidari Council - Black Temple)
Dragonspine Trophy (Gruul - Gruuls Lair)
Tsunami Talisman (Leotheras the Blind - Serpentshrine Cavern)
Warp Spring Coil (Void Reaver - Tempest Keep)
Ashtongue Talisman of Lethality (Reward - Ashtongue Dreadsworn Exalted)
Berserker's Call (Zul'jin - Zul'Aman)
Icon of Unyielding Courage (Keli'dan the Breaker - Heroic Blood Furnace)
Bloodlust Brooch (Badge Reward - 41 Badges)
Romulo's Poison Vial (Opera Event - Karazhan)
Hourglass of the Unraveller (Temporus - The Black Morass)
I found this quite usefull myself, thanks to Cloze for making this guide.
