Magtheridon (1st 25 man Raid)

*This is not a complete overview - go checkout tactics on the bosskillers website as well as videos on YouTube*

Since the latest patch, I honestly think Maggy is an easier option that Gruul’s Lair – the High King Maulgar pull in there is one of the hardest in the game and there is a lot going on in that fight that people need to read about first – it also ofc needs a Mage Tank, we have had not one mage asking for any cloth stamina gear in the guild bank yet, so we can’t go until a Mage reads the tactics and realises he needs gear that I have been collecting!

The loot Maggy drops is ok, but no-one ofc should really definitely need the T4 chest - the badge vendors 2.3 and 2.4 ones are better – with the 2.4 pretty much lasting with you until T6. I realise that for some the T4 will be handy though – for me as a Pally Tank for example, the extra spell damage will be ultra-handy in certain situations since I need to collect 3 types of Tanking gear – Avoidance (Boss Fights)/Spell Damage (Trash and AOE)/Stamina (Heroic Badge Farming) – so I know some of you out there will still want it, so we need to kill Maggy!

The best thing about Magtheridon’s Lair is the fact there are only about 4 pulls and your on the boss, nice and short – its been made significantly easier in recent patches and it is just waiting there ready for us to kill and loot!

Right then… the Maggy fight! (My map shows the position of the initial pull – also note that where the mobs are, the cubes are also – ie. on the platforms)

[Map to come – I’m stuck at work and really shouldn’t be posting on forums :p]

Step by Step:

1. Tanks and Healers take your positions (nothing will attack you), DPS get ready to nuke skull after Tank gets aggro

2. Pull is made by all Tanks at the same time – listen to TS and watch countdown

3. DPS run to and down each mob in the kill order (forget Maggy is even there until all 5 are down)

4. MT (which was on skull), go to Maggy straight after and prepare to pick him up – should be around when the 3rd kill goes down he joins but it depends how much the DPS are slacking :p)

5. When Maggy does join, healers keep MT up and Locks get ready for banishable mobs to appear – CC them with your focus macro so you never have to target them again, DPS should therefore be imba as you only have to target Maggy after you have banished your mob once)

6. After all the kill order is down, all DPS can then move to Maggy (he will already have loads of aggro from MT so have fun and let loose and nuke like hell!)

7. The Cube Clickers prepare and move before you DPS, ignore the nuke until you get as close to your cube as you can

8. DPS like crazy, keep an eye on Omen, keep out of the flames that appear close to him melee, cross your fingers everyone else has read this, and then loot!

Cube Clickers

-Most important thing - before the fight in your interface enable the enemy casting bar function, this way you will see what Maggy is casting under his portrait!

-When all 5 mobs are down and you move to Maggy do not DPS!!! Make sure you know where your cube is… start moving towards it and get as close as you can, then start! Some may be able to stay still all fight by DPSing and clicking on the same spot

-When he pre-casts (green bar) his spell to get ready, stop your DPS its really not important now since if you don’t click the cube we all die within about 6 seconds lol

-When he is casting (yellow bar) the spell keep clicking your cube until you see the spell has been stopped (that means everyone has done it), then stop – if you carry on you will take too much damage and die

-Just keep repeating this step when he casts the spell (locks keep the cc up as well as this, don’t forget one or the other :p Godbless that focus macro!)

Healers

-If you have a Tank to look after at the start, look after him – if your mana gets really low blame the DPS for slacking :p – don’t try to conserve mana if he is taking damage

- If you don’t have a Tank, just save your mana a bit and help out with a HOT or quick heal if you see someone struggling

- After your Tank is done keep an eye on the MT/raid – listen to TS too

- Most of the healing should be on the MT for most of the fight, Priests keep popping POM every 10 seconds on him and keep renew up all the time, it’s a lifesaver!

- The hardest bit is trusting the cube clickers, if they do their job well they will take only about 2k damage each, if not its their fault :p – just keep an eye on them if you’re a MT healer, you can still put HOTs and quick heals on the raid remember

- Don’t worry too much about mana, its really not that mana intensive – if you struggle you prob have far too much bonus healing and not enough mana regen – all healers in 25 man should think about getting spellsurge and not +81 healing! In BT I only had about 1900 healing with buffs sometimes, but never went out of mana, so if you have about 1200-1500 in here its fine… too many people think too much about bonus healing, its no good if you OOM within 5 minutes :p
